Automotive Industry in Shambles, Losing Jobs; AutomotiveCrossing Strives to Increase Job Count

Pasadena, CA — Thousands of automotive jobs have been slashed recently due to rising fuel prices and the troubled US economy. Most of the automotive companies based in various US cities are bearing the brunt of the spreading recession. Media reports predict that automotive workers will continue receiving layoff notices till the end of the year. Oregon County has been in the line of fire most recently, with 720 automotive jobs at a truck plant in peril due to the economic slowdown. The whole automotive industry is struggling, unable to bear the pressure generated by the overall downturn.

''The auto industry is in a terrible state, and jobs are being slashed at an alarming rate to support the deteriorating bottom lines at a variety of automotive companies,'' says Harrison Barnes, CEO of AutomotiveCrossing, a leading job board for automotive professionals.

Automotive Components Holdings LLC, the auto parts supplier based in Wisconsin, had to put a manufacturing plant up for sale due to rising oil prices and the poor economy, putting more than 1,500 jobs in danger. Similarly, 80 workers at the TRW automotive plant in Winona, Minnesota, will have to face the axe, too, with 60 of them already handed pink slips last week. And last month, GM, the largest automotive company in the US, announced a major cut of about 20% of its workforce in order to increase liquidity by around $15 billion. A truck plant in Oshawa, Ontario, was also closed down by the company in late June.

Barnes says, ''The automotive world is facing a lean period, and now is the crucial time to keep the industry operating as efficiently as possible. AutomotiveCrossing, the leading automotive job provider in the US, faces the Herculean task of finding more jobs for automotive professionals as soon as possible.

''The job site is doing fairly well recently, with more than 11,000 jobs currently posted on the site in spite of the recession,'' adds Barnes.

The top job titles according to searches made on AutomotiveCrossing last month are:
  • Automotive technician jobs (1,724 jobs)
  • Automotive tech jobs (1,857 jobs)
  • Automotive consultant jobs (248 jobs)
  • Automotive mechanic jobs (311 jobs)
  • Automotive dealer jobs (128 jobs)
  • Automotive internship jobs (124 jobs)
''There are still many automotive jobs out there. We want to find them all,'' says Barnes.

Unlike other job-search and career sites, AutomotiveCrossing weeds out spam and jobs outside one’s niche, allowing job seekers to search efficiently and specifically. The number of automotive jobs present in the database is expected to get an additional boost in the coming days. For more information on AutomotiveCrossing, please visit www.automotivecrossing.com.
