If you are looking for work and you are familiar with automotive careers you just might consider automotive sales jobs. There are many reasons for this. Even though the automotive industry is taking a hit there are still many jobs available.

You may be one of the hundreds of people who has been laid off and is desperate for work. There are many things you can do. Even if you have worked in the field for thirty years and it seems like there is nothing you can do, there really is. There are plenty of jobs in which you would be a huge asset, like automotive sales jobs. You may have worked or built the automobiles in the past, now you could have the opportunity to sell them.

Just because you were let go or laid off from an automotive career does not mean that there are no jobs available. You can work in automotive sales. One thing to consider is the location, though. It is very important to target a group of people who can afford to buy the cars that you are selling. For example, new cars are very expensive. Almost no one is qualifying for a new-car loan even if they have really good credit. Most people need a good down payment and banks are still very reluctant to give a loan to a consumer. Too many cars have been repossessed because of the problems with the economy. New-car sales have plummeted.



The best bet right now with the economy is to work in automotive sales jobs with used cars. People are not looking at new cars; they are looking for used. Because you have the experience already with cars you can help people find something that is reliable and best for their needs. The shoppers will trust you because you know cars inside and out. Used cars are easy to get a loan on from a bank, and a buyer need not come up with such a big down payment, either. Used cars can run from just a few hundred dollars to thousands.

The thing to remember is that when you work in automotive sales jobs you work on a commission basis. Some car lots will pay you hourly if you do not sell any cars, but often the hourly wage minimum wage. Plus, they will get rid of you if you cannot sell cars. You could make a few hundred dollars per car you sell, depending on how your dealership works. Some manufacturers will even give bonuses for every car of theirs you sell. The important thing to remember is that you may make less of a commission selling used cars but will sell many more in the long run. This will give you a better check and make you more money.

If you are not a good salesman and you do not believe that automotive sales jobs are for you, there are plenty of other automotive careers you can look at. You might consider looking into automotive management jobs. This could be in an auto body shop, a car lot, detail shop, body repair shop, or somewhere else. The good news about other automotive careers than sales is that you will not work based on commission. If you are not good at sales then you can make much more money as a mechanic. If you work in management you may even get a salary.

When you apply for automotive careers that are not in sales you will need to put together a resume. It is best to put together your last ten years of work experience. If you worked in the same place for the last twenty years it will look very good for you. You will come across as stable and dependable, an asset to the company. By having to take up less space with work experience on your resume, you will have plenty of space to fill up with accomplishments and projects you were responsible for in your previous job.

Automotive careers are hard to get today because so many people have been laid off from their companies. Most of the hundreds of workers leaving the big manufacturers like GM or Ford have all moved on to mechanic jobs and anything they can get. This means you need to be quick to apply for jobs you see available. Apply in person and be ready to start work immediately.

There are thousands of people out of work who have been laid of from automotive careers with the big manufacturing companies. These people are desperate for work and are looking toward automotive sales jobs and other various automotive careers. There are many things to consider if you are one of these people. If you are looking into sales be sure you look toward selling used cars. The economy is too bad to sell new cars and most people cannot qualify for a new-car loan. Also, if you do not want to rely on the commission from sales because you are not a people person you might think about working on cars as a mechanic.
